Our Diamonds & Metals

Natural diamonds are one of the oldest and rarest of nature’s treasures you can own. Formed through intense heat and pressure in the earth’s mantle between 720 million and 3.5 billion years ago, they are older than some of the stars in the sky. You can learn more about this under Natural Diamonds.

It has been estimated that only one in every 10,000 natural diamonds is classed as a fancy colour diamond. Described in the spectrum of light to vivid, coloured diamond are created by the chemistry and forces of nature that are highly infrequent and therefore extremely rare. You can learn more about fancy coloured diamonds here.

To simplify the subject of diamond grading, the 4Cs relate to cut, colour, clarity and carat weight - a universal language that was established with the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) and introduced to the public by De Beers. The combination of these factors determines a diamond`s relative rarity and value. You can learn more about the 4Cs here.

While the cut is the only one of the 4Cs that isn’t determined by nature, it’s potentially the most important, such is its impact on brilliance and sparkle. This is why it’s possible for a well cut diamond to command a higher value than one that is slightly larger or of a rarer colour. You can learn more about this here.

De Beers Jewellers is a creative and vibrant luxury Jewellery House from De Beers Group, the world’s leading diamond company with expertise in the discovery and selection of diamonds since 1888. At De Beers Jewellers, we are lucky to have access to some of the world’s most incredible diamonds sourced by De Beers in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Canada, which have a positive impact on people and the planet. We meticulously select our diamonds by eye to meet our strict criteria for beauty, and our designers and craftspeople glorify them in bold and distinctive designs. Our jewellery collections are sold through our stores in exclusive locations around the world, as well as our website, DeBeers.com.

De Beers is committed to ensuring all our diamonds are sourced in a manner that upholds the social, ethical and environmental expectations we share with our customers. Our stringent sourcing procedures, selection processes and certification requirements mean that our diamonds are ethically sourced and 100 per cent conflict-free and that every piece of De Beers jewellery is responsibly crafted.

Diamonds from our mines in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Canada are ethically sourced, making a positive impact on people and the planet along their incredible journey.

Peace of mind on provenance is key for De Beers. We played a key role in the establishment of the Kimberley Process (2003) to address the issue of conflict diamonds. In addition, we went further for our own diamonds, developing in 2005 the Best Practice Principles (BPPs), the strictest set of standards the industry had ever seen. The BPPs ensure that De Beers diamonds can be trusted to be ethically sourced and 100 per cent conflict-free, applying to the journey of the diamond.

De Beers is a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), a standards setting and certification organisation spanning the jewellery supply chain. De Beers commits to and is audited against the RJC’s Code of Practices, which addresses human rights, labour rights, environmental impacts, mining practices, product disclosure and other important topics in the jewellery supply chain.

We work with the most skilled artisans, in the finest workshops around the world. Our jewellery is crafted in a number of different countries as a result of the superior skill sought by De Beers Jewellers for the craftsmanship of their designs.

Diamonds are our muse; they inspire our creativity and shape our exquisite jewellery designs, where emotion meets technical expertise.

We meticulously select the most incredible diamonds to craft extraordinary high jewellery designs.

The pinnacle of our offer is our extraordinary high jewellery collections. This is where we push our creativity to its limits, crafting one of a kind designs that glorify our most incredible diamonds – meticulously selected – and reveal the exquisite artistry and technical innovation of our craftspeople. The expertise gained from our high jewellery savoir faire is imbued in our Bridal and fine jewellery collections. Our creative studio and expert craftspeople work together to create meaningful pieces of unique design and elevated quality to help our clients mark special moments and wear every day.

White gold is rhodium plated to protect and brighten the white gold beneath it. Platinum in comparison, is a lot stronger than gold, making it ideal for engagement rings and wedding bands that are worn every day.

Diamond Care & Aftersales Services

We advise that you always store your jewellery in the original packaging or soft pouch provided. Please keep pieces separately to avoid damage. When dressing, jewellery should always be put on last and taken off first. To maintain the integrity of the diamond settings of De Beers jewellery, we advise each piece is inspected annually on a complimentary basis. This service checks for any signs of damage to the settings that may have been sustained through wear. Any suggested remedial work will help to ensure the continued beauty and longevity of the piece.

Due to the precious nature of the materials used in some of our Enchanted Lotus jewellery pieces, including mother-of-pearl, turquoise, jade, malachite, lapis lazuli and carnelian, we advise you to take extra care when looking after these. In order to protect the materials from damage, please avoid any contact with perfume, lotion, hairspray, household chemicals, as well as hand sanitising gels and sprays.

For ultimate radiance a diamond must be clean. We offer to clean every piece using both ultrasonic and steam systems as a complimentary service in store. Please note that we only recommend cleaning and checking products annually.

To remove grease from your diamond at home, we recommend gently washing it with hot water and washing-up liquid. When doing this, please be sure to first secure the sink or use a bowl. Dry your jewellery with a cotton or linen towel before using your De Beers Polishing Cloth for a sparkling finish.De Beers also offers Instant Diamond Polishing wipes to touch up your jewellery at home. These can be purchased here.

All purchases from De Beers Jewellers are sold with a certificate of Authenticity. Every white diamond between 0.20 and 2.99 carats is accompanied with a De Beers Institute of Diamonds grading report. Every coloured diamond and white diamond that is 3 carats and above is accompanied by a GIA certificate.

De Beers individually selects the very best diamonds for De Beers Jewellers, going beyond conventional assessments to source only the rarest diamonds of exceptional beauty. The House is one of the most selective in the market today.

Our experts at the De Beers Institute of Diamonds meticulously hand-select each and every one of our diamonds, assessing them individually by eye for three key characteristics for exceptional beauty: Fire, Life and Brilliance. Fire is the dispersion of light in a diamond’s facets, projecting a rainbow of colours. Life is the bursts of light that scintillate with every move. We look for the perfect alignment of facets and angles, which maximises how a diamond reflects, refracts and disperses light. This not only represents the quality of a diamond but results in its ultimate sparkle. Brilliance relates to a diamond’s natural transparency – how the light moves through the diamond and reflects to your eye.

For fancy cut diamonds, in addition to assessing the Fire, Life and Brilliance of each diamond, we also evaluate the silhouette of the diamond, a fundamental part of its aesthetic. Our expert diamantaires consider each diamond’s unique shape and proportion using a critical eye and honed intuition to select only those we deem harmonious and beautiful.

All diamonds above 0.2 carats that have passed our strict selection process and meet our environmental and ethical criteria are microscopically branded with the De Beers Marque – a logo and unique diamond reference number that is catalogued in our diamond registry. This also allows us to trace your diamond back to you should it ever be lost and found. We are delighted that this process has previously successfully reunited several of our clients with their valuable and sentimental piece of jewellery.

When you buy De Beers jewellery, a very special journey begins, one that is set to last a lifetime. This is why when you make your purchase, we make a service commitment to you. As part of our complimentary After Sales Service, we are delighted to offer you the opportunity to have your diamond jewellery meticulously cleaned in one of our stores. This service also includes an advised annual inspection of the diamonds and their settings.

Each De Beers diamond is hand-selected and our combination of diamonds and designs ensure that your piece of jewellery captures the utmost Fire, Life and Brilliance. As a result, we do not use diamonds that have not been selected by De Beers in our settings as we are unable to guarantee the same level of brilliance in your finished piece, or the provenance of the diamond.

Engraving a name and a date on any diamond engagement ring or wedding band represents the perfect individual touch and we are happy to undertake this initial engraving at no extra cost. It is also possible to have any of our diamond jewellery designs engraved with a personal message where space allows. Please note that not all jewellery can be engraved. Please check if the option is available on the item page on the website or contact our Client Services team.
